Rehoming Guidelines

At Mansfield Guinea Pig Rescue, our priority is ensuring every guinea pig is placed into a safe, caring, and suitable long-term environment. Each application is considered individually, as different guinea pigs may have different needs depending on age, temperament, medical history, and companionship requirements.

Housing Expectations:

Guinea pigs require spacious accommodation with enough room to exercise, hide, rest, and interact comfortably with their companions. We encourage adopters to provide the largest enclosure possible and to ensure that housing is secure, clean, and well ventilated.

We may ask for photographs or measurements of your setup during the application process.

Companionship:

Guinea pigs are highly social animals and should not live alone unless advised for medical or behavioural reasons. Most guinea pigs in our care will only be rehomed to live with another compatible guinea pig or as part of an already bonded pair or group.

Diet & Daily Care:

Applicants should be able to provide:

unlimited hay;

fresh water at all times;

a balanced guinea pig diet;

regular health monitoring;

and routine enclosure cleaning.

We also encourage adopters to learn about enrichment, safe handling, and behavioural needs before adoption.

Veterinary Care:

Guinea pigs can require specialist veterinary treatment, including emergency care. By adopting from us, you agree to seek veterinary attention promptly if health concerns arise and to ensure ongoing medical care is available throughout the guinea pig’s life.

Indoor & Outdoor Homes:

We consider both indoor and outdoor homes where appropriate. Outdoor accommodation must provide adequate protection from extreme weather, predators, damp conditions, and temperature fluctuations.

Adoption Assessments:

Our adoption process may include discussion of:

enclosure setup;

existing pets;

previous experience;

bonding arrangements;

and general suitability for the guinea pigs available for adoption.

This helps us ensure the best possible match for both the adopter and the animals in our care.

Our Commitment:

We are committed to responsible rehoming and ongoing welfare support. If circumstances ever change after adoption, we encourage adopters to contact us for advice and assistance wherever possible.

Thank you for supporting rescue guinea pigs and helping us provide safe, loving homes.
